Detailed Itinerary

July 5 - ARRIVAL: Welcome to Tanzania! International arrivals into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), Transport to Arusha, Settle in and relax at team hotel in Arusha, Meet the team, Dinner and overnight in Arusha hotel

July 6 - ARUSHA: Breakfast in hotel, Opening circle, Orientation debriefing meeting for the trek, Opportunity to buy any gear and supplies in Arusha, Traditional Tanzanian cooking class, Humanitarian aid visit to INUKA and Gracious Hope, Overnight in Arusha hotel

July 7 - BEGIN TREK: Breakfast in hotel, 3 hour drive to Machame Gate (6,000 ft.) to begin Kili trek, Begin by trekking through rainforest ascending on a winding trail up a ridge, Lunch on the trail, Arrive at Machame camp (9,300 ft.) for dinner and overnight camp Trekking time: 5-7 hours Trekking distance: 6.8 miles Elevation climb: +3,300 ft.

July 8 - TREK MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA CAMP: Breakfast at camp, Continue trek, Ascend through rainforest across a valley along a steep ridge into a river gorge to a plateau, Lunch on the trail, Dinner and overnight at Shira camp (11,843 ft.) Trekking time: 4-6 hours Trekking distance: 3 miles Elevation climb: +2,500 ft.

July 9 - TREK SHIRA CAMP TO BARANCO CAMP: Breakfast at camp, Continue trek, Lunch on the trail, Ascend to Lava Tower and glacier (16,000 ft.) and descend to semi-desert terrain at Baranco camp (12,795 ft.) for dinner and overnight camp Trekking time: 6-8 hours Trekking distance: 6.2 miles Elevation climb: +4,150 ft./-3,200 ft.

July 10 - TREK BARANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP: Breakfast at camp, Continue trek ascending on a steep ridge to climb Baranco wall, Lunch on the trail, Enter the stunning alpine region, dinner and overnight at Karanga camp (13,100 ft.) Trekking time: 5-6 hours Trekking distance: 3.7 miles Elevation climb: +310 ft.

July 11 - TREK KARANGU CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP: Breakfast at camp, Continue trek, Ascend to Barafu, Lunch on the trail, First views of summit!, Dinner and overnight at Barafu camp (15,331 ft.), Prepare for summit push at midnight Trekking time: 3-4 hours Trekking distance: 2.5 miles Elevation climb: +2,230 ft.

July 12 - SUMMIT PUSH!!!: Begin summit push at midnight through alpine glaciers and waterfalls to arctic terrain, After ascending for 7 hours reach SUMMIT Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft.) - the highest point on the African continent!!! Rest and photos, Begin descent back to Barafu camp, Breakfast at Barafu camp, Continue descent, Lunch on the trail, Dinner and overnight at Mweka camp (10,170 ft.), Celebration Trekking time: 7 hours to summit, 4-6 hours descent Trekking distance: 3 miles ascent/7.5 miles descent Elevation climb: +4,000 ft./-9,000 ft.

July 13 - MWEKA CAMP TO ARUSHA: Breakfast at camp, Continue trek descending via a beautiful steep walk through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (5,500 ft.), Receive summit certificate, Drive to Arusha hotel, Relax!!, Dinner and overnight in Arusha hotel Trekking time: 3-4 hours Trekking distance: 6.2 miles Elevation climb: -4,670 ft.

July 14 - ARUSHA TO BAGAMOYO: Breakfast at hotel, domestic flight to Dar Es Salaam, Drive to Bagomoyo Village for cultural immersion, Lunch on the road, Drumming circle and African art in Bagomoyo Village, Dinner and overnight at Firefly Hotel

July 15 - BAGOMOYO: Breakfast at hotel, moto rides to small remote Swahili village for fresh market shopping, traditional cooking, and incredible village-wide summit celebration party, humanitarian aid opportunities in village, Overnight at Firefly Hotel

July 16 - DAR ES SALAAM TO ZANZIBAR: Drive to Dar Es Salaam, Fly to dreamy Zanzibar Island, Jeep travel across island to Jambiani, Arrival at stunning beachfront hotel, Relaxxxx, Lunch independently, Team dinner, Overnight in hotel

July 17 - ZANZIBAR: Breakfast at hotel, Masai cultural immersion, Beachwalk, Relaxation in beachfront hotel, Lunch independently, Team dinner, Overnight in hotel

July 18 - ZANZIBAR: Breakfast at hotel, Sailing in a traditional dow boat, Optional kitesurfing, Relaxation in beachfront hotel, Lunch independently, Team dinner, Overnight in hotel

July 19 - STONETOWN: Travel from Jambiani to Stonetown (capital of Zanzibar), Free time in Stonetown for shopping/sightseeing, Independent lunch, Fiordani Evening Market, Closing circle candlelight rooftop dinner, Overnight in stunning traditional architecture Stonetown hotel

July 20 - DEPARTURES: International departures from Zanzibar (ZNZ) or connection to Dar Es Salaam (DAR) and onwards

July 3: Breakfast in hotel, Drive to Tarangire National Park, Safari drive through big game including elephants (highest population of elephants in Tanzania), Lunch in the bush, Dinner and overnight at Safari lodge in Mto Wambu

July 4: Breakfast at camp, Drive to Ngorongoro Crater, a breathtaking unfilled volcano caldera and the best location to witness ‘The Big Five’ (African elephant, African buffalo, rhino, lion, and leopard), Lunch in the bush, Return to Arusha, Dinner and overnight in Arusha hotel

*INUKA means ‘to rise’ in Swahili. In partnership with Grace Ngonyani, we are honored to support both, located in Arusha, Tanzania. INUKA is a center for socio-economic female empowerment. Gracious Hope is a non-profit day care center aimed at supporting widowed mothers and babies. They are run together by Grace, and we welcome you to join us in an intimate experience of cultural sharing, humanitarian aid, communal cooking, a glimpse at a African community in need, and an opportunity to support them.

CHILDCARE OPTION: Dreams do come true! We are offering a childcare camp for your children while you trek Kilimanjaro! They will stay in our week-long adventure camp in Arusha, Tanzania with our loving staff for African immersion, art, drumming, and play!
